Ethnographic History: Die Voortrekkers Youth Study

The young white Afrikaner male is frustrated with the new South Africa – right? Wrong! For three months the ethnographer spend time with young males with his camera from students in Dagbreek in Stellenbosch to young farmers in the Free State recording their joys and frustrations in the new South Africa with surprising results.

In the contemporary South Africa there is a huge debate among academics and other intellectuals whether the young Afrikaner is disillusioned with the new South Africa.
Since the inception of the New South Africa academics and market researches was more interested in researching the needstates of the emerging markets in the new South Africa. Not much attention was paid to the emerging white Afrikaner male, but slowly organisations realised that the young Afrikaner was still around and active in a lot of activities below the radar.

The object of this project was to establish the mindset of the young Afrikaner regarding his future expectations of South Africa. The aim of the project was to spend some time with young males and observe their experiences and at the same time capture their views and emotions.
